National Medicines Symposium 2016: continuing professional development

NMS 2016 has been approved for professional development accreditation.

For nurses

This National Medicines Symposium (NMS) 2016 is endorsed by Australian College of Nursing (ACN) according to our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Endorsed Course Standards. It has been allocated 12.5 CPD hours according to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia – Continuing Professional Development Standard.

For GPs

This activity has been accredited for 14 Core points in the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) PD Program for the 2014-2016 triennium (activity code 5731).

This activity has been accredited for 30 (Category 2) points in the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) QI & CPD Program for the 2014–2016 triennium (activity number 45666).

For pharmacists

This activity has been accredited for 21.75 hours of Group 1 CPD (or 21.75 CPD credits), and 5 hours of Group 2 CPD (or 10 CPD credits) for the interactive workshop component and successful completion of relevant assessment activities. This comprises a total of 31.75 CPD credits* suitable for inclusion in an individual pharmacist’s CPD records. Accreditation numbers: CX160087–115

After attending NMS 2016, participants will be able to:

  • Apply quality use of medicines principles to everyday practice to improve patient care and health outcomes
  • Outline local, national and international activities aimed at improving quality use of medicines and other health technologies
  • Recognise how challenges in translating evidence into process and implementation can be overcome
  • Identify emerging technologies and interventions that support better health-related decision-making by consumers and clinicians
