How NPS develops content

The development of all NPS content (both print and electronic) for health professionals and consumers is guided by working groups of experts in their field, editorial panels, expert reviewers and consumers. Declarations of conflicts of interest are made by all members of working groups and expert reviewers.

Names of working group members are found in the NPS Annual Report; names of reviewers are included in products where appropriate.

Material is derived from a wide range of authoritative evidence researched and written by internal teams of health professionals and medical and consumer writers. All products are reviewed externally by appropriate reviewers and internally through stringent review processes.

Experts and external reviewers include specialist medical practitioners, clinical and community pharmacists, general practitioners, nurses and other health professionals, clinical pharmacologists, academics, medical and health editors, individual consumers and representatives of consumer organisations.

Consumer content is tested through consultation with consumer organisations and with appropriate audiences and individuals identified in the development phase through our working groups and partnerships with consumer organisations such as Consumers’ Health Forum and the Federation of Ethnic Communities’ Councils of Australia.

Where NPS has identified good quality evidence based broadcast quality content (e.g. Health Minutes), it will be linked through the website and/or our YouTube channel.

The NPS website is managed by the NPS Publishing team. Where relevant, the content that appears on the website is the same as appears in reviewed and approved print products, e.g. NPS RADAR, with formatting changed to suit the web. The Publishing team has responsibility to ensure electronic products are updated in concert with print products and that any changes to electronic products go through review and quality control processes.
