One-in-three forget to take their medicine

New findings from a survey conducted by NPS have shed some light on exactly how Australians are using — and misusing — medicines. Of 1500 Aussies surveyed 29% said they sometimes forget to take their medicine read the media release.

Clean Out Your Medicine Cabinet Day

Australians were encouraged to spend a few minutes cleaning out their medicine cabinets as part of national Be Medicinewise Week.

Medicinewise tips for cleaning out your medicine cabinet:

  • Gather all the medicines in your house including creams, gels, eye drops, vitamins, herbal remedies, prescription and non-prescription medicines
  • Check the expiry dates on all the medicines
  • Check which medicines you still need. If in doubt, ask your pharmacist or doctor
  • Take any unused or expired medicines to your local pharmacy for disposal
  • Make a list of your medicines using an NPS Medicines List.
