Rebecca's story

I’ve had nine orthopaedic operations and unfortunately have been plagued with chronic shoulder pain. People live with disappointments in life, and when my illness started in my 30s, this was one. Your 30s is normally not a stage where a lot of people access healthcare well you do for maternity and other issues with children, but you usually don’t access it for chronic illness, unless it is for a genetic illness.

I found my illness a bit disappointing because I have probably spent a lot of time interacting with the health system, and working out how to manage my pain, that I could spent doing something like playing tennis or studying for a degree. So I’ve done the hard yards, but along the way I’ve learned a lot.
