Quality Use of Medicines workforce

NPS has a field force of more than150 NPS Facilitators working in Divisions and Networks of General Practice around Australia. They play a key role in promoting our activities to health professionals and often to consumers too.

In addition there are 130 volunteer Seniors Peer Educators trained by the Council On The Ageing (COTA). They play a key role in promoting our activities to consumers.

NPS Facilitators, with their links with health professionals in their own communities, are one of the strengths of our program for health professionals. They play a key role in promoting our activities to doctors, pharmacists, practice nurses and other health professionals in their local areas. Their role includes:

  • providing one to one educational visits to general practitioners to give them the opportunity to discuss current issues in therapeutics
  • conducting small group case based discussions with doctors, pharmacists and practice nurses
  • promoting and supporting Quality Use of Medicines (QUM) activities through the local division of general practice promoting and supporting QUM activities through the local division or network of general practice.

Seniors Peer Educators volunteer their time to help seniors in their local communities learn more about medicines and taking a more active role in their own medicine use, including empowering them to ask questions of their doctor and pharmacist.
