What are the symptoms of atrial fibrillation?

Atrial fibrillation can often go undiagnosed for some time as you may not notice any symptoms.

Symptoms, if you do feel them, may include:

  • heart palpitations (a feeling of your heart pounding)
  • chest pain
  • dizziness
  • fainting spells.

The main concern with atrial fibrillation is the risk of stroke, for which many people are prescribed an anticoagulant medicine.

You may also be prescribed other medicines to control the rate or rhythm of your heart.
