Caring for people with diabetes

Carers of anyone with diabetes will need to be able to recognise and treat hypoglycaemia, especially if the person they care for is using injected insulin.

Carers may also need to be involved in making decisions about diabetes management and medicines, especially for children or adolescents, and those with a physical or mental disability.

Joining a local diabetes support group can be helpful. Your health professional, community health centre, diabetes educator or local council can all provide information about programs and groups in your area.
