• provide skills and knowledge for decision making about medicines
• raise and improve awareness about the role and limitations of medicines
• promote greater understanding and awareness of choices between medicines use and other approaches
• build on established communication channels
• increase consumer awareness about the key role they play in talking to health professionals about their medicines
