Each day, scores of people ring the pharmacists at NPS Medicines Line on 1300 888 763 to ask questions about their medicines. Here’s one from Margaret.

Q I have arthritis in my knee and I take paracetamol for it. Last week, I hurt my knee. When I went to the doctors, I had to see a different GP because my regular GP was away. He gave me a sample pack of Moxicam and told me what to do with it, but I can’t remember what he said. To make matters worse, there was no leaflet in the box.

A Moxicam (active ingredient meloxicam) is a medicine that will help to reduce the pain and swelling in your knee.

Not all medicines have a Consumer Medicine Information (CMI) leaflet in the box. If one is not in the box, you can get it by asking your pharmacist or GP, downloading it from the National Prescribing Service website, or ringing NPS Medicines Line.

If ever you can’t remember the instructions for taking a medicine, consider ringing the doctor to get the instructions again, asking your pharmacist for advice, or, as you have done now, ringing NPS Medicines Line for advice.
