The community quality use of medicines program has recently launched a program that will make it easier for consumers to learn more about their medicines. The program begins with a booklet called Medimate and a media campaign.
Consumers now have a handy, 16-page booklet that will help them use medicines appropriately. The booklet — Medimate: For medicines without the mix-ups — gives clear and concise advice about how to find, understand and use information about medicines. It also suggests ways of working with doctors and pharmacists to get the advice and guidance needed to use medicines safely and effectively.
For example, it outlines a series of questions you can ask when your doctor or pharmacist is recommending or prescribing a medicine.
The back cover of the Medimate booklet contains a tear-off page that can be used to record the details of all your medicines, including any over-the-counter, natural and herbal medicines you may be taking.
You can obtain a free copy of Medimate from your local GP, pharmacist, or download or order a copy from our website. Bulk copies can also be ordered free of charge from the website.
Advertisements that raise the awareness of medicines issues and promote Medimate began appearing on television and in magazines in late January.
The advertisements encourage people to pick up a Medimate booklet so they can learn about the safe and appropriate use of medicines. The advertisements are being augmented by a media strategy designed to help newspaper, magazine, radio and television writers prepare informative and accurate stories about medicines. The strategy will provide writers with independent and accurate information, expert commentary and resources about medicines and their use.
