Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medicines (ACSOM)
The Advisory Committee on the Safety of Medicines (ACSOM) is a statutory expert advisory committee that provides advice to the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) about safety issues.
The TGA encourages health professionals and the general public to report adverse reactions that may be due to medicines. This information is regularly analysed so that any potential safety concerns are investigated in detail. If the TGA identifies a new safety concern, they may seek the expert advice of ACSOM.
Side effects of new medicines, which may not have shown up in clinical trials, can be picked up after marketing.
