NPS MedicineWise facilitator visits
NPS MedicineWise supports health professionals with education and information through our partnership with Medicare Locals across Australia.
Educational visiting is one of our evidence-based activities that help general practitioners improve quality use of medicines (QUM). In Australia and internationally, educational visiting is recognised as a robust way to help health professionals make changes that enhance QUM in their daily practice.
Educational visits are delivered by NPS Facilitators, who are specifically trained in health professional learning, focussing on one-on-one communication. Before visiting on a therapeutic topic, facilitators receive specialised training in clinical therapeutics and are updated on the latest evidence supporting the topic.
Educational visits provide GPs with an opportunity to engage one-on-one with a trained NPS Facilitator to discuss information and evidence relating to a therapeutic topic. The information and discussion is tailored to meet individual general practitioner needs. Each visit runs for approximately 30 minutes, is free of charge, and is delivered at a time and location suitable for the GP.
Educational visits are recognised by a number of health professional bodies as contributing to continuing professional development (CPD). They also qualify as an activity for the Quality Prescribing Initiative (QPI) of the Practice Incentives Program (PIP).
