This Clinical e-Audit provides GPs with the opportunity to assess absolute cardiovascular risk, modify risk factors, identify and aim for guideline-recommended blood pressure targets and tailor therapy according to coexisting conditions.

Review 10 patients

  • 16 years of age or older
  • using an antihypertensive drug(s)   

Participation will assist GPs to...

  • Calculate absolute cardiovascular risk using the Australian cardiovascular risk calculator
  • Recommend lifestyle modification to reduce overall cardiovascular risk
  • Identify patient’s recommended target blood pressure based on relevant coexisting conditions
  • Select antihypertensive drug therapy based on patient characteristics and the potential favorable effects on coexisting conditions
  • Recognise the importance of starting patients on antihypertensive monotherapy in uncomplicated hypertension
  • Assess patient adherence to antihypertensive drug(s)
  • Identify patients not achieving recommended target blood pressure and alter antihypertensive and/or prohypertensive drug therapy to achieve this target
  • Implement a systems approach to identify patients using an antihypertensive for which there is a potential contraindication for use or drug interaction
