Quality Prescribing Indicators in Australian General Practice

Download  PDF

Our quality prescribing indicators are designed to support and improve quality prescribing in general practice.

Prescribers who use these quality prescribing indicators can gain insight into their own prescribing and identify areas for quality improvement.

Some indicators promote use of good-quality decision support for prescribing, e.g. access to evidence-based guidelines and up-to-date product information for all drugs.

Other indicators focus on measuring elements of prescribing against best practice guidelines, e.g. percentage of patients with systolic heart failure not currently prescribed an ACE inhibitor or angiotensin II-receptor antagonist.

These indicators have been developed through wide-ranging consultations, testing and review of available evidence and principles of Quality Use of Medicines (QUM).
