Costs and reimbursements of X-rays

If you have your X-ray in a public hospital as a public patient you will not be charged. If you are admitted to a public hospital as a private patient you will have to claim the costs of the X-ray through Medicare and your private health insurance provider.

If you have your X-ray in a private hospital or a private radiology practice you may be bulk billed or there may be out-of-pocket expenses, so it’s a good idea to ask beforehand. Medicare does not usually cover the cost of dental X-rays, but if you have private health insurance you may be eligible to claim some of the cost back.
