Australian Prescriber has officially launched a comprehensive publication Abnormal Laboratory Results (2nd Edition) to help health professionals and students interpret laboratory test results. This will assist them when advising patients.

This booklet is a collection of Australian Prescriber articles which examines abnormal test results and outlines how to interpret them. Each test is analysed and interpreted in a structured, logical way and assessed in terms of its normal reference range. The results are then presented in a variety of clinical contexts.

Australian Prescriber first published a booklet on laboratory tests in 1987. This second edition has been fully updated with new chapters and has been edited by Professor Geoffrey Milton Kellerman, Emeritus Professor of Biochemical Science at the University of Newcastle. Abnormal Laboratory Results 2nd Edition, which is written by Australian and international experts, is pocket sized for ease of use.

"Tests are often thought to be infallible, but there can be false positive and false negative results. The book should help people to avoid this trap“, says Dr John Dowden, Editor of Australian Prescriber.

Abnormal Laboratory Results (2nd Edition) has been co-published with McGraw-Hill Australia and is available from all good specialty medical bookstores or direct from McGraw-Hill Australia on (02) 9900 1800.
