The Board of National Prescribing Service Limited (NPS) has today announced the election of Dr Janette Randall as the new Chair of the NPS Board.

Dr Randall, from Brisbane, was elected to become the third NPS chair, effective 17 October,2007. Her appointment will follow the retirement of incumbent Dr Roger Boyd, who has been a member of the NPS Board since its inception in 1998 and will by October have served the maximum term allowed under the NPS constitution.

Dr Randall has been a member of the Board since May 2006, when she was elected as a GP Class Director. She currently chairs the Audit Committee and is a member of the New Drugs Working Group.

Outgoing Chair Dr Boyd said: “The Board is very pleased that Dr Randall has accepted the position as Chair. She has the experience, skills and vision to take NPS into its next phase. Janette will be leading NPS into a new decade of growth and maturity, beginning with its 10th anniversary celebrations in 2008.”

Dr Randall said she was honored to be elected as Chair of NPS and was looking forward to an exciting new phase of development and opportunity for the organisation. “Over the next 5-10 years, NPS will grow in recognition and credibility,” she said. “The scope of its services will expand, but will remain consistent with the organisation’s core purpose and values.”

Among Dr Randall’s priorities is for NPS to become a stronger advocate for QUM through more robust partnerships and wider promotion of its successes.

“Our value in driving quality use of medicines through change towards best practice for health professionals and consumers will be measured more broadly. We will be an organisation that people will want to work for and with to improve the health of all Australians,” she added.

Dr Randall said she would work to ensure that the skills and experience of all Board members were recognised and utilised to fully benefit the organisation. “This includes creating opportunities for the Board to inform and influence thinking, both within and beyond the organisation, in ways that are strategic, challenging, and which add value to the QUM environment,” she explained.

NPS CEO Dr Lynn Weekes said Dr Randall had already made significant contributions to the NPS Board and she was looking forward to working with Dr Randall in her new capacity as Chair.
