Adding and editing medicines (MedicineList+ for iPhone)
- Should I add vitamins and herbal products to my medicines list?
- There's no match for my medicine's barcode. What do I do?
- Can I include special instructions for my medicine?
- Can I record what my medicine is for?
I take vitamins and herbal products that I buy from my local pharmacy. Should they be added to my medicines list?
Yes. You should include all the medicines you use, including vitamins, minerals, supplements, herbal and natural medicines. All of these can interact with other medicines, so it is important to include them on your medicines list and to mention them to your health professionals.
Also include all your prescription and other non-prescription (over-the-counter) medicines.
I tried scanning the barcode to add my medicine, but the app says there’s no match. What do I do now?
If the scanner is unable to find a match, you can search the database for your medicine by using either the brand name or the active ingredient(s). These are usually written on the medicine's packaging or label.
If you can’t find your medicine’s active ingredient(s) or brand name, just enter the name you use for it. For example, ‘red pill’ or ‘blood pressure tablet’ is fine to get you started. You can also ask your pharmacist or doctor for help if you don't know the brand names and active ingredients for your medicines.
My doctor/pharmacist has given me special instructions for my medicine. Can I include that information in the app?
Yes. For example, you can record whether to take your medicine with food, when you need to stop your medicine or if you have to store it in a special place (e.g. the fridge). The best place to record this information is in the other instructions and notes field in the medicine’s record.
Can I record what my medicine is for in the app?
If you have added current health conditions to your profile, tapping reason for use will open the list of health conditions. If the reason you’re using the medicine is not in the list, you can add it here.
