An interdisciplinary webinar presented by NPS MedicineWise on 11 April will uncover how good communication and collaborative care between health professionals can help patients get the most out of treatments for anxiety disorders.
The free one-hour webinar will be broadcast live on Thursday 11 April 2019, 7.00pm-8.00pm AEST, with an on-demand recording available online later in the month.
Facilitated by NPS MedicineWise medical adviser and general practitioner Dr Jeannie Yoo, the webinar will cover:
- Recognition and assessment of anxiety symptoms, including impact and severity, to assist in appropriate management and referral.
- Evidence-based psychological treatments such as cognitive behavioural therapy, and explore their role for people with anxiety.
- How to engage people with anxiety in psychological treatments and discuss realistic expectations about treatment.
- When medicines may be indicated and how they may be used with psychological treatment.
Dr Yoo says early recognition, assessment and diagnosis supports good management and contributes to speedier treatment and improvement in the lives of people with anxiety disorders.
“Psychological treatment has a key role to play in the management of anxiety disorders, and a collaborative approach between health professionals can result in increased engagement and persistence with treatment, and better outcomes for the patient,” says Dr Yoo.
“The management of anxiety disorders calls for a holistic and collaborative approach between the patient, their GP and other health professionals.”
The webinar panel includes two GPs – Dr Jeannie Yoo and Associate Professor Louise Stone; a psychiatrist – Associate Professor Lisa Lampe of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) Anxiety Disorders Working Group; and a clinical psychologist – Dr Sarah Edelman.
This event is one component of the current educational program on anxiety disorders being delivered nationwide by NPS MedicineWise.
Participation in the webinar counts as a CPD activity for GPs. It is recommended that pharmacists and nurses report the 1 hour webinar for the purposes of self-directed CPD.
