Consumer medicine information (CMI) leaflet

Please read this leaflet carefully before you start using LUXYAL.

What is in this leaflet

This leaflet answers some common questions about Luxyal™.

It does not contain all the available information. It does not take the place of talking to your doctor or pharmacist.

If you have any concerns about taking this medicine, ask your pharmacist. Keep this leaflet. You may need to read it again.

What Luxyal™ is used for

Luxyal™ brings fast, long-lasting relief to dry, irritated and tired eyes caused by external factors such as dust, smoke, air conditioning, wind, prolonged computer work or the use of contact lenses.

Luxyal™ can be used with all types of contact lenses.

It contains sodium hyaluronate to lubricate the eye. Its activity is optimized and prolonged by the synergic action of Protector™. The presence of electrolytes in the solution help to keep the ocular surface in physiological conditions.

Luxyal™ also contains OXYD™, a unique new preserving system that keeps the solution sterile and helps reduce any irritation to the eye. OXYD™ turns into oxygen, water and sodium chloride on contact with the eye. These substances occur naturally in tears and do not irritate the eye.

Before you use Luxyal™

When you must not use it

Do not use it after the expiry date printed on the pack or if the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering. If it has expired or is damaged, return it to your pharmacist for disposal.

How to use Luxyal™

If you do not understand the instructions on the box or bottle, ask your doctor or pharmacist for help.

How much to use

Put 1 or 2 drops into each eye, or use as directed by your doctor.

How to use it

  • Make sure the seal is intact.
  • Wash and rinse your hands thoroughly.
  • To open the bottle, unscrew the top completely and break the safety seal.
  • Turn the bottle upside down and instil one or two drops into each eye, or as directed by your doctor.
  • Close the bottle tightly after use.

While you are using Luxyal™

Things you must not do

To prevent possible contamination, do not let the tip of the dropper come into contact with any surface. Do not instil Luxyal™ into the eye(s) together with other substances, as their effect may be altered.

Side effects

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice anything that is making you feel unwell.

After using Luxyal™

Storage

Keep your eye drops in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 25°C. Once opened, the solution must be used within 60 days. Any solution left over 60 days should be disposed of.

Do not store Luxyal™ or any other medicine in the bathroom or near a sink. Do not leave it on a windowsill or in the car. Heat and dampness can destroy some medicines.

Keep it where children cannot reach it. A locked cupboard at least one-and-a half metres above the ground is a good place to store medicines.

Disposal

If your doctor tells you to stop taking this medicine or the expiry date has passed, ask your pharmacist what to do with any medicine that is left over.
