Why am I receiving this report?

As part of our national therapeutic programs, NPS MedicineWise provides GPs with a Practice Review at least three times a year. The purpose of the Practice Review is to support GPs in their professional development and quality improvement by providing them with selected data on medicines and medical tests. The information is confidential. Data are provided for personal reflection only and are not used for any regulatory purposes.

How can I change my mailing address?

You can change your preferred mailing address online through Health Professional Online Services (HPOS) as a self-service option.

Alternatively, you can email Provider.Registration@humanservices.gov.au from a personal email address which clearly identifies you, or is the same email address stored on the Medicare Provider Directory with your full name, provider number and new preferred mailing address.

Where does the PBS data come from? 

The data are from the Department of Human Services and include all PBS prescriptions for the relevant medicines that were dispensed. Sometimes the reason for prescribing is not known from the PBS data, ie, the specific condition cannot be determined. We advise you to consider these data in regard to your patients and their indications for treatment.

Data reflect prescriptions you wrote that were dispensed. Keep in mind possible delays between the date of prescribing by you and date of dispensing for the patient.

Discrepancies may occur between the data provided and your own practice data. This may be due to either inaccurate recording of your prescriber number in the pharmacy or your prescription pad having been used by another doctor.

How does NPS MedicineWise get my data?

NPS MedicineWise has a contract with the Department of Human Services for the supply of both MBS and PBS data which contains individual provider names and numbers, and aggregated patient data. This information is stored by NPS MedicineWise in Australia and is protected using multiple layers of accredited security controls, including best-practice encryption methods. 

This information is only accessed by NPS MedicineWise staff who have obtained an Australian Government security clearance. 

What is MedicineInsight?

MedicineInsight is a quality improvement program developed and managed by NPS MedicineWise with funding from the Australian Government Department of Health.

It is the first large-scale data program in Australia that extracts longitudinal deidentified patient health records from participating general practices. It comprises over 3.5 million patient records. The program draws insights from primary care through aggregate clinical data of all participating general practices and delivers practice insights that can be used for quality improvement and to improve population health. These insights can be used by policymakers, health systems and health professionals.

MedicineInsight data includes information on conditions, patient demographics as well as pathology results. This data has been provided in this report to complement the PBS data and enable you to reflect on your patients and your clinical practice.
