About

Because pain presentations can be complex, diagnosis and management of neuropathic pain can be challenging. This Clinical e-Audit will guide you to:

  • review your approach to diagnosing neuropathic pain in light of the recently published grading system and updated neuropathic pain definition
  • identify strategies to maximise treatment benefit and tolerability
  • consider emerging evidence for first-line medicines when recommending treatment
  • access tools and information that may be helpful to your patients.

Our Clinical e-Audits are free quality improvement activities that help GPs review their current prescribing practice for patients with certain conditions, compared with current best practice guidelines.

What’s involved:

  • completing electronic data collection for 5 patients
  • submitting de-identified data securely online
  • reflecting on immediate patient-specific feedback to assist implementation of changes to practice
  • reviewing individual and peer feedback results, based on achievement of best practice clinical indicators
  • recording progress of individual patients automatically identified for review
  • reflecting on improvements in your practice.

Learning outcomes

Participation in this activity will help you:

  • recognise the importance of combining targeted history and physical examination in the diagnosis of neuropathic pain, to exclude other causes of pain
  • implement a stepwise approach to pharmacological management of neuropathic pain and consider key patient factors to individualise treatment
  • identify strategies to improve tolerability and adherence to neuropathic pain medicines
  • develop a pain management plan, incorporating realistic treatment goals, with patients.

You will…

  • have access to a summary of best practice recommendations
  • receive practical advice to provide to your patients
  • create an individualised management plan for each patient
  • receive immediate feedback and be able to compare your results with those of your peers.
