Central to this commitment is our pledge to genuinely engage with consumers, communities and stakeholders at all levels of the organisation and throughout the process of developing all our programs, products and services.
About the Consumer Advisory Group
The Consumer Advisory Group will advise on best practice for consumer and community engagement and hold NPS MedicineWise accountable to our obligation and commitment to follow through on the consumer engagement principles.
This group is also a forum to provide consumer input to influence the work of NPS MedicineWise.
The Consumer Advisory Group will:
- Provide information and advice to NPS MedicineWise and the Board on strategies for implementing best practice methods for involving consumers as advisers in the organisation’s strategy and operations.
- Provide information and advice to NPS MedicineWise and the Board on consumer needs and priorities, how to elicit them and how to best meet them.
- Support the development of templates, checklists and other resources for consumer participation and involvement.
- Monitor and evaluate consumer engagement activities and the co-design of particular projects.
Criteria
All members and the Chair must meet the following essential criteria:
- Eligible to work in Australia
- Ability to commit to the time required for such an advisory group.
Desirable criteria:
- Knowledge or experience in consumer issues around the quality use of medicines and medical tests
- Ability to represent the perspectives and needs of a wide variety of consumers
- Ability and confidence to constructively challenge the status quo and promote innovative thinking
- Ability to engage constructively in a committee environment or willingness to learn.
NPS MedicineWise will work to ensure a diverse range of people are appointed to the group. At least one position will be available for a person who is a new or emerging consumer representative.
The following persons are ineligible for appointment:
- A person who is or has ever been a health practitioner (registered or practising in any country)
- A current or former NPS MedicineWise staff member or director
- A person who works for, or has private interests in, a company in the business of developing, selling, providing or marketing medicines, medical devices, or medical tests
- A person registered as a lobbyist on a federal, state or territory lobbyist register, or who works for an entity on such a register.
In addition to the criteria listed above, the Chair must also meet the following essential criteria:
- Have leadership experience
- Be a strategic thinker
- Be a system thinker with a good grasp of health literacy evidence and practice as well as the settings in which quality use of medicines and medical tests are delivered
- Be able to act as a conduit between consumers and the health sector
Term of Appointment
Members and the Chair will be appointed for a maximum of two years and are eligible for re-appointment for a maximum of two consecutive terms.
Meetings
The Consumer Advisory Group will generally have three face-to-face meetings per year in Sydney, although there may be an option to join remotely.
Meetings generally run between 10am-3pm with an average of 2hours preparation prior to meetings (for members) and additional time for the Chair to develop agendas etc.
The first meeting is anticipated to take place on 27th May 2020.
Members will be paid sitting fees (in line with tribunal rates) as well as travel and accommodation expenses.
