1. Why am I using Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno?
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno contains the active ingredient ephedrine hydrochloride. Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is used to treat the low blood pressure which may occur during spinal anaesthesia. It works by contracting the blood vessels in your limbs, so that more blood is available for your heart.

2. What should I know before I use Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno?
Do not use if you have ever had an allergic reaction to ephedrine hydrochloride or any of the ingredients listed at the end of the CMI.
Talk to your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, take any other medicines, or are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.

4. How do I use Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno?
- Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno must only be given by a doctor or nurse.
- Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is administered as a slow injection into the vein.
- Your doctor will decide what dose of Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno you will receive. This depends on your medical condition and other factors, such as your weight.

6. Are there any side effects?
Possible side effects include headache, dry nose, mouth or throat, fever or sweating, nausea, vomiting or stomach pain, mood or mental changes, such as nervousness, anxiety or irritability, difficult or painful urination, chest pain, breathing difficulty, irregular, fast or slow heartbeat.

1. Why am I using Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno?
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno contains the active ingredient ephedrine hydrochloride.
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is used to treat the low blood pressure which may occur during spinal anaesthesia. It works by contracting the blood vessels in your limbs, so that more blood is available for your heart.
2. What should I know before I use Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno?
Warnings
Do not use Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno if:
- you are allergic to ephedrine hydrochloride, or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.
- Always check the ingredients to make sure you can use this medicine.
- you have, or have had any of the following medical conditions:
- heart problems
- pheochromocytoma (a rare tumour of the adrenal gland near the kidney)
- closed angle glaucoma (a condition in which there is a build up of pressure in the eye)
- mood/thought disorders and were given monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors in last two weeks or about to commence on this group of medicines - using an antibiotic medicine called linezolid
- undergoing general anaesthesia
- the packaging is torn or shows signs of tampering
- the expiry date on the pack has passed.
If you are given this medicine after the expiry date has passed, it may not work as well or it may make you feel sick.
During treatment, you may be at risk of developing certain side effects. It is important you understand these risks and how to monitor for them. See additional information under Section 6. Are there any side effects?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Check with your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.
Your doctor will discuss the risks and benefits of using Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno.
Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is not recommended for use if you are breastfeeding.
Children
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is not approved for use in children.
Tell your doctor any of the following before you are given Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno:
If you have or have ever had any other health problems other medical conditions, including:
- high or low blood pressure
- prostrate problems or difficulty in passing urine
- mental health disorders
- thyroid problems
- diabetes.
If you are an athlete or competing in sports
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno contains an active substance that may cause a positive reaction in anti-doping tests.
3. What if I am taking other medicines?
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any medicines, vitamins or supplements that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.
Some medicines may interfere with Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno and affect how it works. You may need different amounts of your medicine, or you may need to take different medicines.
These include:
- Medicines used to treat heart failure (e.g. digoxin)
- Alpha blockers (e.g. prazosin and methyldopa) or beta blockers (e.g. propranolol) used to treat high blood pressure
- Medicines used to treat mental health disorders such as amitriptyline, moclobemide, phenelzine, venlafaxine and dothiepin
- Medicines used in the treatment of migraine such as ergotamine and any derivatives
- Theophylline (a medicine used to treat asthma)
- Acetazolamide, dichlorphenamide, sodium bicarbonate, sodium citrate (medicines that make urine less acidic)
- Linezolid (an antibiotic)
- Medicines used to treat epilepsy such as phenytoin
- Medicines used to treat ADHD such as methylphenidate
- Medicines found commonly in over the counter cold and flu preparations such as pseudoephedrine and phenylephrine.
Your doctor has more information on medicines to be careful with or avoid while being given Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure about what medicines, vitamins or supplements you are taking and if these affect Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno.
4. How do I use Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno?
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno must only be given by a doctor or nurse.
How much Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is given
Your doctor will decide what dose of Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno you will receive. This depends on your medical condition and other factors, such as your weight. Sometimes only a single dose of is required.
How Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is given
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is administered as a slow injection into a vein.
If you use too much Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno
As Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is always given to you in a hospital under the supervision of a doctor, it is unlikely that you will receive an overdose.
If you think that you have being given too much Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno, you may need urgent medical attention.
You should immediately:
- phone the Poisons Information Centre
(by calling 13 11 26), or - contact your doctor, or
- go to the Emergency Department at your nearest hospital.
You should do this even if there are no signs of discomfort or poisoning.
5. What should I know while using Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno?
Things you should do
Remind any doctor, dentist or pharmacist you visit that you are using Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno.
Driving or using machines
Be careful before you drive or use any machines or tools until you know how Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno affects you.
Drinking alcohol
Tell your doctor if you drink alcohol.
Looking after your medicine
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno will be stored in the pharmacy or on the ward.
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno pre-filled syringe injection is kept in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 30°C.
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno ampoule injection is kept in a cool dry place where the temperature stays below 25°C.
Keep it where young children cannot reach it.
Getting rid of any unwanted medicine
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno should only be given to you in a hospital therefore the doctor or nurse will dispose of any left over.
Do not use this medicine after the expiry date.
6. Are there any side effects?
All medicines can have side effects. If you do experience any side effects, most of them are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention.

Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is a clear and colourless solution, containing 30 mg/10 mL ephedrine hydrochloride.
Ephedrine Hydrochloride Juno is supplied in either polypropylene syringes or polypropylene ampoules, available in pack sizes of 10.
