1. Why am I given HALAVEN?
HALAVEN contains the active ingredient eribulin mesilate. HALAVEN is used to for the treatment of breast cancer. It is used when at least one other therapy for locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer (i.e. breast cancer that has spread beyond the original tumour) has been tried but has lost its effect.
It is also used in adults for advanced or metastatic liposarcoma (a type of cancer that arises from fat tissue) when previous therapy has been tried but has lost its effect.

2. What should I know before I am given HALAVEN?
Do not use if you are breastfeeding or have ever had an allergic reaction to HALAVEN or any of the ingredients listed at the end of the CMI.
Talk to your doctor if you have any other medical conditions, take any other medicines, or are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding.

4. How am I given HALAVEN?
- HALAVEN will be given to you by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a vein, usually over a period of 2-5 minutes, but this may take longer. The dose you will receive is based on your body surface area (expressed in squared metres, or m2) which is calculated from your weight and height. The usual dose of HALAVEN is 1.4mg/m2, but this may be adjusted by your doctor based on your blood test results or other factors.

6. Are there any side effects?
Stop taking HALAVEN and seek medical attention immediately if you experience any of the following uncommon but serious symptoms: fever, with a racing heartbeat, rapid shallow breathing, cold, pale, clammy or mottled skin and/or confusion or any difficulty breathing, or swelling of your face, mouth, tongue or throat. Very common side effects include nausea, vomiting, constipation, diarrhoea, tiredness or weakness, fever, loss of appetite, weight loss, pain in joints/muscles/back or limb extremities, headache, hair loss, cough and difficulty breathing. 1. Why am I given HALAVEN?
HALAVEN contains the active ingredient eribulin mesilate. HALAVEN belongs to a group of medicines called anti-cancer agents. It works by stopping the growth and spread of cancer cells.
HALAVEN is used for the treatment of breast cancer. It is used when at least one other therapy for locally advanced or metastatic breast cancer (i.e., breast cancer that has spread beyond the original tumour) has been tried but has lost its effect.
It is also used in adults for advanced or metastatic liposarcoma (a type of cancer that arises from fat tissue) when previous therapy has been tried but has lost its effect.
Ask your doctor if you have any questions about why this medicine has been prescribed for you.
2. What should I know before I am given HALAVEN?
Warnings
Do not use HALAVEN if:
- you are allergic to eribulin mesilate, or any of the ingredients listed at the end of this leaflet.
- If you are breastfeeding
- Always check the ingredients to make sure you can use this medicine
Some of the symptoms of an allergic reaction may include:
- shortness of breath
- wheezing or difficulty breathing
- swelling of the face, lips, tongue or other parts of the body
- rash, itching or hives on the skin
Check with your doctor if you:
- If you have liver or kidney problems
- If you have a fever or an infection
- If you experience numbness, tingling, prickling sensations, sensitivity to touch or muscle weakness
- If you have heart problems
- take any medicines for any other condition
During treatment, you may be at risk of developing certain side effects. It is important you understand these risks and how to monitor for them. See additional information under Section 6. Are there any side effects?
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Check with your doctor if you are pregnant or intend to become pregnant.
Talk to your doctor if you are breastfeeding or intend to breastfeed.
HALAVEN may cause serious birth defects and should not be used if you are pregnant unless it is thought clearly necessary after carefully considering all the risks to you and the baby. It may also cause future fertility problems in men if they take it and they should discuss this with their doctor before starting treatment.
Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during and up to 3 months after treatment with HALAVEN.
HALAVEN should not be used during breast feeding because of the possibility of risk to the child.
Important information about some of the ingredients of HALAVEN
- This medicinal product contains small amounts of ethanol (alcohol), less than 100 mg in a vial

3. What if I am taking other medicines?
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including any medicines, vitamins or supplements that you buy without a prescription from your pharmacy, supermarket or health food shop.
Some medicines may interfere with HALAVEN and affect how it works.
Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure about what medicines, vitamins or supplements you are taking and if these affect HALAVEN.
4. How am I given HALAVEN?
How is HALAVEN given
HALAVEN will be given to you by a doctor or nurse as an injection into a vein, usually over a period of 2-5 minutes, but this may take longer. Dosage and frequency of HALAVEN
HALAVEN is usually given on Days 1 and 8 of every 21-day cycle. Depending on the results of your blood tests, the doctor may need to delay administration of the medicine until the blood tests return to normal. Your doctor will determine how many cycles of treatment you should receive.

If you miss a dose of HALAVEN
It is very important for you to keep all appointments to receive HALAVEN. If you miss an appointment, ask your doctor when to schedule your next dose.
If you are given too much HALAVEN
As HALAVEN is given to you under the supervision of your doctor, it is unlikely that you will be given too much. However, if you experience any side effects after being given HALAVEN, tell your doctor immediately.
5. What should I know while receiving HALAVEN?
Things you should do
Call your doctor straight away if you:
- If you become pregnant while taking HALAVEN
Remind any doctor, dentist or pharmacist you visit that you are being given HALAVEN.
Things you should not do
- Do not take any other medicines, whether they require a prescription or not, without first telling your doctor or consulting with a pharmacist.
Driving or using machines
Be careful before you drive or use any machines or tools until you know how HALAVEN affects you. Do not drive or use machinery if you feel tired or dizzy.
HALAVEN may cause side effects such as tiredness (very common) and dizziness (common).
6. Are there any side effects?
All medicines can have side effects. If you do experience any side effects, most of them are minor and temporary. However, some side effects may need medical attention.
