Becoming an NPS MedicineWise member
We have 2 types of members:
- voting (organisations)
- honorary (individuals).
Voting members are organisations that have representative members of quality use of medicines stakeholders, who can demonstrate a commitment to the quality use of medicines and support the National Medicines Policy.
Benefits of being a voting member
There are a number of benefits to being an NPS MedicineWise voting member including:
- the right to nominate individuals to the Board
- voting rights at our annual general meeting (AGM)
- receiving outcomes papers from the Board meetings
- scope to raise issues for consideration by the Board
- opportunities to take part in formal NPS MedicineWise planning and strategic meetings
- opportunities to put forward representatives for NPS MedicineWise committees and advisory groups
- access to all our publications
- links on our website
- endorsement offers of specific or relevant programs and activities
- information about our activities
- access to a direct contact at NPS MedicineWise who can progress any requests and promote their needs
- the right to nominate individuals for honorary membership.
Criteria for becoming a voting member
- is, or has members that are representative of quality use of medicines and medical tests stakeholders
- can demonstrate a commitment to quality use of medicines and medical tests through its objectives and/or actions
- supports the National Medicines Policy
- has confirmed ongoing honorary membership of NPS MedicineWise
- does not have a real or perceived conflict of interest with our objectives and activities.
As a member of NPS MedicineWise your organisation will have a responsibility to:
- include quality use of medicines in the organisation's documentation (e.g. strategic plan)
- engage with other partners to progress quality use of medicines and/or medical test issues
- nominate individuals for NPS MedicineWise advisory groups.

The honorary membership category was introduced in 2011 to publicly recognise individuals with outstanding and long-term commitments to improving the quality use of medicines and medical tests, and who are not current employees or directors of NPS MedicineWise.
In July of each year we invite our members, directors, advisory groups and staff to nominate suitable individuals as honorary members. The Board shortlists and appoints up to three individuals as honorary members each year. Honorary members are announced at the AGM usually held in November. Honorary membership is for life or until the person resigns their membership.
