About
This
module aims to promote improved communication between pharmacists and
young people accessing pharmacy services including medicines for
depression and anxiety, to optimise their engagement with management
options and support their overall mental health wellbeing. Whilst the
focus is young people aged 16 –24 years, many learnings are relevant to
supporting effective communications in general, regardless of the
person’s age.
Learning outcomes
On completion of this activity you should be able to:
- Describe the pharmacists' role in providing support to young people with mental health issues and prevalent disorders.
- Implement communication skills to help overcome potential barriers and effectively engage young people in discussions about their mental health.
- Discuss expectations of antidepressant medicines and non-medicine treatments for the management of anxiety and depression.
- Identify key resources and referral points that can be provided to young people and their families/carers to support management of their mental health.
